This has a particular place in my heart as a native born New Yorker who remembers that day.
On a gray morning in the skies over lower Manhattan, on this day 50 years ago, Philippe Petit stepped onto a wire strung 1,350 feet in the air between the North and South Towers of the World Trade Center, and began a 131 foot walk, which he repeated a number of times over the course of 45 minutes, a walk into the history, the legends, and the hearts of New York City.

Now, years after, most people recall the Twin Towers for that horrific day of September 11, 2001 - a day that I recall all too well, and wished I didn't.  But, when I think of the Twin Towers and the World Trade Center, I prefer to remember standing in the plaza and looking up at the towers, stretching up to the blue skies of New York City; or having lunch in the Windows On the World on a clear day, and being able to see for miles and miles; or an evening dinner there, and being able to see off in the distance, some 40 miles away, the flashing tower beacon that was near my home in New Jersey.
But, especially, I like to remember that early morning in August when Philippe Petit was a man on a wire; an early morning in August when it seemed anything was possible; an early morning in August when one could even believe in miracles; an early morning in August when one man showed it was possible to walk the heavens and come that much closer to god; an early morning in August where the future was yet unknown and still shined brightly before us; an early morning in August 50 years ago today.

So I was browsing some of my recent uploads to make sure you're all following some rules,  and there's some interesting technical stuff there. This makes me happy.

Since the secret is out (not much of a secret, anyhow - LOL!), I may as well post it here.  Today's my birthday. I was hoping to get by under the radar, but no such luck. Well, I wrote this as regards my thoughts on the matter:
I looked down into the stream flowing on by, and it looked no different than 'twould on any other day, by and by. But different it was, as 'tis every day, and so I continued onwards, with barely a sigh.

A good excuse for a party, anyway - though any excuse is good for a party!

      Good day, all!
Today is a special day - a very special day - for it was 80 years ago that Allied troops landed on the beaches of Normandy and spilled their blood and gave their lives so that Europe could be freed and a great evil cleansed from the earth. And it is to each of us who now live, to remember the sacrifices made that day, and the reason for those sacrifices - to remember them and know them, and keep them in our living memory, so that they need never be made again. To this end, we need maintain our vigilance against all who would raise up that great evil once again, who preach words of isolationism and withdrawal despite the wisdom spoken by our founding fathers - "together we stand, divided we fall." For, if we, the free nations of the world do not stand together as one, then know this, we shall all fall one by one.
So, on this day let us once again recall the great deeds done by so many, and remember, remember so that those deeds need not be done again.

My apologies for being missing in action for a while - events over on Steam took their toll and resulted in a health situation for me.  I will gradually be catching up on my Starfield Helpful Links and References topic - but it may take a little while, as I am trying to avoid as much stress as possible. Thank you all for your patience and understanding!
